State Meeting Planning Committee

Report from ASPIRE-MT State Planning Committee (SPC)
Submitted by Dan Benge, President-Elect

  1. The State Planning Committee (SPC) began the task of developing proposed guidelines for the TRiO Achievers Luncheon. Robbie Sullivan took the lead on this project and has developed an excellent proposal to be reviewed and hopefully adopted at the ASPIRE Regional Conference.

  2. The committee surveyed dates for the state meetings and selected April 5-6. Darlene Sampson and Joyce Kronholm have secured the Jorgenson Hotel for the conference site and stay. Room rates are $62.00 per night.

  3. Tom Mortenson, of the PELL Institute, is interested in coming to our conference and the cost would be his travel expenses. He will not charge us a fee for speaking. With Tom tentatively coming to Montana, the SPC and GRC could set up other speaking opportunities with Legislators, University Administrators, BOR, CHE and OPI.

  4. Ideally we would like to have a reception for the legislators as we had done two years ago. It was very successful and a significant number of legislators were in attendance. There has been tentative discussion of having our TRiO achievers speak at the reception with the legislators present and also speaking at the Rotunda. The luncheon would be to honor them for their achievements and would not necessarily have to speak again.

  5. Michelle Watson volunteered to be the conference registration chairperson.

  6. A survey will be handed out at the regional meeting to determine workshop topics for attendees.

The following is needed:

Conference Theme Ideas
Conference Workshops/Speakers –
Guest Speaker – Tom Mortenson from the Pell Institute has tentatively committed
TRiO Achievers Luncheon
Raffle at Legislative reception- Raffle Items
Program material for Legislative reception – Government Relations
